Department of Food Science Staff
The Department of Food Science, a unit of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, was founded in 1903 as the Department of Dairy Industry. Its name was changed to the Department of Dairy and Food Science in 1960. In 1966, its current name was adopted, reflecting an expanded mission that encompasses the broad discipline of food science. Today, the department maintains strong programs in dairy science but is also known for its work on fundamental aspects of food science involving a broad range of food commodities and components. The Department is an integral part of the Cornell Institute of Food Science (CIFS). CIFS is an umbrella organization made up of faculty and staff from the Department of Food Science on the Ithaca campus, the Department of Food Science and Technology at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, and several other departments with interests in food science and technology.
